Coffee

Would you like a cup of coffee?
To make you for a moment happy
But once you feel the caffeine kick in
All the guilt and remorse start to sink in

I do not know why I still drink
I only do it for the first few sips
But that taste tricks me to believe
That this time I would not feel sick

Why would you like a cup of coffee?
For a feeling that passes too quickly
Perhaps you’ve become too hasty
Always thinking of the temporary
NEW YEAR'S EVE

On the deck where we stand
Champagne glasses in our hands
The lights explode in the sky
We’re first to watch the new year arrive

I cross this off my bucket list
But why do I now suddenly miss
Watching through the window at home
Shut tight because of the smell of smoke

Jumping up and down with my sisters
Hoping to grow even just a centimetre
Making my family go down for a meal
But I never succeed for they’d rather sleep

As I look around me everyone is full of cheer
An ideal crowd to be with on new year’s eve
But for the first time I’d rather be
Back home safe and sound asleep
